If you want to make a difference in the world, there has never been a better time. From careers in sustainability and cybersecurity to jobs in health informatics or construction management, STEM fields can provide future graduates with an incredible sense of fulfillment and excitement, in addition to great job prospects.

Many of these projected openings are for jobs that do not presently exist. While experts can predict a demand in various engineering areas such as rebuilding of infrastructure, renewable energy, oil and gas extraction, and robotics, they cannot predict exactly what the jobs will entail. Though we don't know exactly what future STEM jobs will look like, we know that there are certain skills that will be essential to future graduates' success. And that's where ABET comes in.

For this reason, employers worldwide view ABET accreditation as an effective screening tool for identifying qualified new hires. Ask any multinational company in the STEM fields and they will tell you that the people they are looking to hire must not be singularly good at engineering, science or technology. These new hires must also be strong communicators, business-minded and globally aware. In professions that are truly global by nature, graduates need to connect with customers, learn new jobs in different functions and organizations, work with diverse teams, all while maintaining technical currency and excellence in all they do.

Oakland University is one of the best places in the country to prepare for jobs in mechanical engineering. According to Gradreports.com (a website that tracks graduate earnings), Oakland University ranks in the top 10 nationally in starting salaries for mechanical engineering graduates. Within a year of graduation, 96 percent of our students have jobs in mechanical engineering or are pursuing a graduate engineering degree or a military career.

Our graduates work in a variety of jobs in mechanical engineering, with job titles such as calibration engineer, application engineer, mechanical design engineer, advanced development engineer and design release engineer.

The second degree is offered at our distance locations across western North Carolina, concentrating on technical operations. The curriculum is designed for career-focused working adults who wish to pursue their degree through part-time study. The first two years of the program may be taken at any North Carolina Community College or on campus in Cullowhee. Students receive instruction through online courses and evening classes at off-site locations. This second program is not ABET accredited. Graduates of our ABET-accredited BSET program are landing outstanding jobs with employers in industries such as aerospace/aviation, automotive, online retail, heavy equipment, outdoor recreation, and many more.

The Work Environment tab includes the number of jobs held in the occupation and describes the workplace, the level of physical activity expected, and typical hours worked. It may also discuss the major industries that employed the occupation. This tab may also describe opportunities for part-time work, the amount and type of travel required, any safety equipment that is used, and the risk of injury that workers may face.

We build custom tooling for many of the jobs we run. We also design and build special EDM Systems, Power Supplies and Controls. For certain applications, especially high volume requirements, our proprietary 'Multi-Lead/Multi-Servo' (tm) EDM Systems can result in very competitive quotes. With our Portable EDM Systems, we are able to machine oversize parts outside of the machine, or EDM parts in the field. We have collaborated with organizations such as the Illinois Institute of Gas Technology on development projects utilizing EDM technology.

Engineering projects will usually need engineering technologists/technicians. Graduates can typically pursue engineering technology jobs in the four main branches of engineering (chemical, civil, electrical and mechanical) and smaller branches (aerospace, agricultural, biomedical, computer, environmental, nano and vehicular). 153554b96e
