The Basic tools in Elements include one selection tool (the lasso), and one selection tool enhanced with the tools called the Magic Wand, Regular Select, Eyedropper, and Type Select, depending on which tool is currently selected. You can also use the Toolbox to select the Brush tool, the Erase tools, and various other tools. You use the Brush tool to add color to an area. You can use the Erase tools to pick and remove areas, or copy special effects from one image to another.
Although many people are familiar with the standard tools offered by Photoshop, some of these tools exist in Vector and Pixel-based packages besides Photoshop. The tools offered in Photoshop, and the Tumbleweed effects shortcuts, are available in other Adobe Creative Suite programs. In addition, the file format of the first Photoshop version, PhotoShop '98, is no longer compatible with newer versions. Instead, all file formats must be saved in the pixel-based format, although the PSD (Photoshop document) is a layered format like PhotoShop '98.
To change your image to black-and-white, you can save the number of colors you want in your image. If you don't want any settings to appear in your document, then just choose Auto Levels, Auto Color, or Auto Contrast. If you want to save time when designing, you can choose the three-step method. This method lets you create a black-and-white, grayscale, and sepia-toned image in one step. The more levels you increase, the greater the chances of a successful conversion.
Controlling the way that you apply various effects to your images involves the use of the Layer Styles. Layer Styles let you add the effects of tone, lighting, overlay, highlight (highlights), shadow, reflection, and inner shadow to a layer. You can complete this process in two ways. You can either Copy a style or Create a New Style. To Apply a layer style to a layer, first select the layer that you want to apply the style to. Then, highlight the new layer style, and drag it to the layer. d2c66b5586
