The battle continues over who will win the open Hood County seat on the Upper Trinity Groundwater Conservation District board. With development booming, the stakes could be high, particularly for those who build expensive homes on two-acre lots and assume that a well will supply their water needs.
Final battles are arguably the most important part of any Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, as it brings the action-packed movie to a head and will often have lasting implications on the larger universe. Within the cinematic universe, some final battles have certainly been done better than others, whether it be because of the CGI, the emotional weight of the fight, the stakes, or the aftermath and effects on future MCU movies. Marvel has becan experimenting a bit with what a final fight can be, but most are still big, bright, and action-packed.
Thor: The Dark World concluded a lackluster movie with an equally lackluster final battle scene. The final battle between Thor and Malekith was not very interesting to watch, and Loki was the only saving grace of this fight. Overall, it wasn't a memorable final battle with poor CGI that lacked any true emotional consequence.
With the return of the Abomination in human form in She-Hulk this final battle certainly carries more weight now than it did even two years ago. While this movie is generally regarded as one of the MCU's worst movies to date, the final battle was probably the best thing about it. While it still doesn't quite stack up to the epic CGI and lasting effects that other final battles have produced, it was arguably a solid way to conclude the film.
The return of both Doctor Strange and the Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was highly anticipated, but unfortunately, the movie failed to meet many high expectations. One aspect of the movie that was subpar compared to the original was the final battle. Wanda's villain arc was ruthless, and although the final battle was supposed to be between her and Zombie Strange, it was ultimately America Chavez who won the battle, which led to a somewhat dissatisfying ending.
Thor vs. Loki in the original Thor movie was interesting to watch back when it debuted in 2011, but it is a final battle that simply hasn't aged well. It is unlikely that Marvel Studios predicted the popularity of Loki's character, with Phase 4 proving Loki doesn't need Thor to stand alone as a great character. While the final battle itself is fine, it is somewhat difficult to get immersed in after witnessing the brotherly bond between Thor and Loki that unfolded in future movies.
Ant-man and the Wasp attempted to balance multiple villains and storylines. While Marvel movies have successfully managed multiple villains against the backdrop of an already exciting story before, Ant-Man and the Wasp felt a little cluttered. When the final battle against Ghost came to a head, it just felt confusing. Intermixed with the battle was the fight with Jimmy Woo, who, after appearing in WandaVision, appears to have an MCU future. On top of that, the gang had to fend off black market dealer Sonny Burch, which led to the final battle feeling just as messy as the rest of the movie.
While Captain Marvel was a fantastic movie and a major success for Marvel Studios, grossing over one billion dollars at the box office, the final battle was not what made it stand out. The reversal of Skrulls being good and the Kree being the villains was an interesting twist, but it came late in the film, which added to the underwhelming feeling of this final battle. Captain Marvel fighting the Kree at the climax felt like a weak and unforgettable moment compared to more emotional and powerful moments in the rest of the film.
While the emotional weight of Natasha and Yelena's stories, and the gravity of what taking down the Red Room truly meant, was powerful, the final battle didn't convey it well. Ever since the Black Widow solo MCU movie, this final battle scene has been heavily critiqued for its heavy use of bad CGI that failed to look realistic in more than a few shots. It was a final battle that was important and weighty but somehow lacked the ability to hook viewers.
The final battle in the movie that started it all, Iron Man fighting Iron Monger was the best of Iron Man's solo final battles. Iron Monger, also known as Obadiah Stane, was a terrifying yet realistic villain, and the final showdown between the two men was emotionally jarring and showed how much Iron Man had grown from the start of the film. Fighting at the top of the Stark Industries building, which would later become Avengers Tower, was a fascinating location that provided the perfect backdrop for a classic battle between good and evil.
The high-powered action battle is a finale worthy of the rest of Black Panther. Killmonger may be a better villain than Thanos, thanks to the lasting impact seen in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The train scene where much of the battle took place was an unexpected location, and the entire final battle had decent CGI effects. The emotional turmoil that T'Challa faced when fighting Killmonger brought the movie to a satisfying end.
Avengers: Age of Ultron is possibly one of the most underrated MCU movies. The final battle against Ultron brought the original six Avengers together again with new additions such as Wanda and Pietro. What's more, part of it took place on a floating city that was pulled off with near flawless CGI and balanced high-powered action, gut-wrenching sadness, and hopeful optimism.
The battles behind Francis Ford Coppola's surreal war movie are well-documented: the nightmarish, multiyear shoot; star Martin Sheen's heart attack and recovery; a cackling press corps that sharpened its knives for a turkey of epic proportions. Coppola would have the last laugh. So much of the vocabulary of the modern-day war picture comes from this movie, an operatic Vietnam-set tragedy shaped out of whirring helicopter blades, Wagnerian explosions, purple haze and Joseph Conrad's colonialist fantasia Heart of Darkness. Fans of the Godfather director, so pivotal to the 1970s, know this to be his last fully realized work; connoisseurs of the war movie see it (correctly) as his second all-out masterpiece.
Stop snickering: There's a real reason why this sci-fi actioner is so high on our list. Never before (and probably never again) had the monied apparatus of Hollywood been so co-opted to make a subversive comment about its own fascist impulses. Director Paul Verhoeven cackled all the way to the box office as giant bugs were exterminated by gorgeous, empty-headed bimbos; when Neil Patrick Harris showed up near the end of the movie in a full-length Nazi trench coat, the in-joke was practically outed. Source novelist Robert Heinlein meant his militaristic tale sincerely; meanwhile, the blithe destruction of humankind on display here could only be intended as a sharp critique, both of soldiering and of popular tastes. Return to it with fresh eyes.
Pervy Dutch director Paul Verhoeven is better known for Basic Instinct and Showgirls, but war movies are his true métier. In this deliciously plotted WWII survival tale (a comeback of sorts for the Hollywood exile), a hotcha Jewish singer becomes a spy, a freedom fighter and a bed partner of Nazis. Talented Carice van Houten commits fully.
To audience members in love with the sea, this movie, taken from three of Patrick O'Brian's popular Napoleonic War novels, will rank much higher. At its heart is the Kirk-Spock relationship between Russell Crowe's fearless captain and Paul Bettany's thoughtful doctor. The naval battles are an action fan's wet dream.
HD DVD was one of two formats for high definition DVDs. The other format was Blu-ray. HD DVD specifications were put in place in 2002. Negotiations among consumer electronics companies to have only one product for playing high definition discs ended when there was no consensus about royalties. HD DVD was primarily funded and marketed by Toshiba and NEC and was first released as a consumer product in 2006. When HD DVD was first launched, it had a sales lead over Blu-ray. Industry analysts say that Toshiba lost almost $1 billion supporting the format before abandoning it in 2008. There are a number of reasons that the HD-DVD format lost out to Blu-ray, which was championed by Sony (SNE). The most commonly cited explanation is that Sony did a better job convincing major film studios to release high definition editions of movies for Blu-ray. Sony may have had an advantage because it owns one of the largest studios. Analysts believe that when Sony got Warner Brothers to adopt Blu-ray exclusively, it won the battle against HD DVD. Toshiba had several explanations for the failure of its product. One of those that it mentioned most often was that the digital video download business hurt sales of physical DVD players. That argument does not carry much weight because downloads should have hurt Blu-ray just as much. The final blow to HD DVD was probably when Wal-Mart (WMT) decided to stop offering the format in favor of Blu-ray. There has been no compelling analysis as to why Blu-ray survived and HD DVD did not. One thing is certain. Sony was willing to continue to spend money even though the future of high definition disks was not assured, and that risk is not over. Blu-ray is still not a staple in most consumer entertainment systems.
In 2020, the hurt inflicted upon many by involvement in the Vietnam War still lingers and colors the experiences of people who are still alive. Just because battle ended in 1975 does not mean the battle has ended for those still suffering from trauma and PTSD, in addition to the enduring influence on politics, social justice, human rights, and foreign policy. People still carry stories that demand to be told, and the war has successfully immortalized itself within pop culture because of this.
A decade of careful breadcrumbs planted across dozens of movies culminated in a jaw-dropping finale that was remarkable in terms of its ambition and execution. Infinity War brought together pretty much every major character that had been seen on screen in the previous 10 years to take on Thanos and stop his plan to wipe out half of all life in the universe. The pitched battle between the forces of Earth and an alien army was stunning cinema, and the shocking cliffhanger ending was one of the biggest cultural moments of the year, if not the decade.
