Zip files are archives that function as a single compressed package of a either multiple files, a folder, or a single item. Zip files are frequently encountered when downloading stuff from the web or elsewhere to a Mac, and while the Zip format used to be widely limited to the Windows world, .zip archives are often created and used on Mac OS now too.
Another option is to use the popular third party archive extraction tool called The Unarchiver to open .zip archives on the Mac. To do this, you will need to download and install The Unarchiver first.
Once The Unarchiver is installed and launched, it will want to associate with all known archive types on the Mac. This enables the third party tool to open zip archives and other items in Mac OS that the default Archive Utility may not support, which is another benefit. The Unarchiver can open zip archives as well as open RAR files on a Mac, zip CPGZ files, bz2 bzip, .7z files, .sit, gzip gz, tar, and many other file archive formats that you may encounter when downloading data from the internet or in emails. That vast support for extracting a wide variety of file types is one of the many reasons why The Unarchiver is a great third party app to add to a Mac.

Zip files like .gz and .zip downloaded from safari end up being unzipped while they are being saved in the computer. In this article, you will learn how the process of unzipping downloaded files by default can be stopped. Zipping helps in reducing the space taken by archive files by compressing them together. Moreover, the process of folder transfer across devices and networks becomes quicker and more comfortable. For example, .zip extension files can easily be emailed in form of email attachments.
Using the Safari browser, it is easy to download files from the internet while browsing. Some of the stuff that can be downloaded from the internet include music, PDF, and zip files. Safari is set in a way that any compressed files that are downloaded gets unzipped immediately when the download process is complete. Files such as .zip files downloaded through Safari are decompressed by default. Nonetheless, changing this Setting is easy because, in some instances, you might require only the zipped file. Nevertheless, you should not worry so much because even if the Setting remains, software and programs are never opened. Only the zipped files are opened.
When you are done unchecking this box, you no longer have to worry. No zip files that will be downloaded through Safari will be automatically unzipped. However, if you will want to unzip the file, you only have to double click on it, and it will be decompressed automatically. Furthermore, your programs and software will remain unopened until you decide to open or run them.
Safari, unlike other browsers, tends to unzip all the downloaded files by default. files such as archives, a text document, PDFs, sounds, pictures, and moves are automatically unzipped. However, you can always revert this default setting. Once you change the Setting, compressed files will not be automatically decompressed when they are downloaded and saved. You should also not worry about software and programs because the auto unzipping process never opens them.
This archive. will work on a 32 or 64 bit Windows OS. The bit level of the JDK you install will determine if it runs as a 32 or 64 bit application. This download does not include the required Oracle Java JDK. You will need to install it if it's not already on your machine. We officially support Oracle JDK 11.
Hi all. So I updated my Mac to Catalina, and noticed something weird. I was downloading some zip files from Audio vault. I don't know whether to think that the zip files I ended up with are empty because of Catalina being weird or is it the website administrators? I'm posting this here because I've downloaded zip files from them before with no problems, using the same config with Catalina and using the same utility thingy that opens when you hit Command plus O on a zip file, and there were no problems. I don't know if Catalina is the problem or the website forgot to put all the files in a zip file archive in there. I should probably download zip files from other locations, but not sure how to test this problem I've found. ... What do you guys think? Catalina or not?Beth
The same issue. When I updated to Catalina ALL my ZIP file cant open. I even downloaded NEW Zip files on my MacBook that CAN be opened on an iPhone and other computers, but NOT on my 2018 MacBook Pro. I get the message that says " Unable to expand, it is in an unsupported format." Any ideas?? Who else is having this issue? Thanks.
This short tip explains how you can stop Safari from automatically unzipping downloaded zip files. When you want to save a zip file on your computer, Safari will unzip .zip and .gz files after downloading. So what if you want to save as a .zip file without extracting. Zip files are compressed, archive files that take up less space. It also enables you transfer folders easily and quickly. For example you can email a folder with a .zip extension as an e-mail attachment.
You can easily download stuff online while browsing the web using Safari. For example you can download zip, PDF or music files. By default, Safari will automatically open compressed files. Safari decompresses files such as .zip files after you download them. But is is easy to change this setting. However even if you keep this setting unchanged, do not worry Safari will only open files, NOT programs or software.
MySQL Cluster Community Edition is available as a separate download. The reason for this change is so that MySQL Cluster can provide more frequent updates and support using the latest sources of MySQL Cluster Carrier Grade Edition.
When I use this PHP code to download the Zip file to my Mac, using Safari or Firefox, I get an error saying "Decompression Failed" or "The structure of the archive is damaged" or I get a .cpgz file - which I believe means that the computer is zipping the file, not unzipping it.
But keep in mind you can have nested output buffers, and this will corrupt your download as well (cheers to Vladamir for figuring this out). So to clear the output buffer completely run this before you read your file:
You may get latest build (EA version) of DBeaver. Usually it contains all major bug fixes found in current stable version. Just choose the archive corresponding to your OS and hardware from the following folder: EA version downloads.

GNU Emacs for Windows can be downloaded from a nearby GNU mirror; or the main GNU FTP server. Mostly simply, download and run the emacs-version-installer.exe which will install Emacs and create shortcuts for you. Alternately, download emacs-version.zip then unzip, preserving the directory structure. You can then run bin\runemacs.exe or create a desktop shortcut to bin\runemacs.exe and start Emacs by double-clicking on that shortcut's icon.
